How to get a perfect manicure

Get pretty fingers the healthy way by giving yourself an at home manicure!  Easy on the budget and perfect for those who want to achieve healthy strong nails.

1. Gather all your tools- Make sure you have everything that you need to give yourself a manicure. You want to make sure you  have all the materials you will need on hand before you start.

2. Remove old nail polish – Use a cotton pad or cotton ball and put a little acetone free nail polish remover on it. Acetone dries out your nails and cuticles and it isn’t needed to remove polish.

3. Cut your nails- Trim nails if needed so that they look uniform and even before resting your fingers the herbal tea. For the perfect cut, make sure you start from one end and work your way to the other instead of starting in the middle and cutting the pointy middle last.

4. Shape your nails- Shape your nails with a fine emery board. Petite fingers look best with almond or oval nails and stocky fingers look better with square shaped nails. Filing nails in a back and forth motion can weaken the nails. File your nails gently in one direction only for the perfect result.

5. Soak your cuticles- After wiping off all the debris from your nail after filing, soak your fingers in a bowl of warm not hot herbal tea. Try green teas high in anti-oxidants.  Keep them in the tea until the cuticles have softened then remove and pat dry.

6. Push your cuticles back- If your cuticles are still not soft enough or brittle apply a little cuticle oil before pushing the cuticles back. Push back enough to show more of the half moon on the base of your fingernails. Never cut your cuticles. Removing the cuticle skin will allow bacteria to enter and cause infection. Instead, just cut off hangnails that are attached to your cuticles with a pair of cuticle scissors. Be modest, don’t over cut the cuticles.

7. Buff your nails- If you plan to put colored nail polish, buffing will allow it to stick to your fingernails. Use a 4 step buffer found in any beauty supply store. Moisturize with a day or night hand cream.

Got Weak nails – Give your nails a rest. Your nails need time to breathe. If you nearly always wear color, leave at least one weekend without it.
